Tesco has hired one of BP’s top lawyers to spearhead issues including its expansion into China and India.
Adrian Morris, BP’s general counsel for refining and marketing, will join the retailer on 3 September and will be part of boss Philip Clarke’s group executive committee. Morris joined BP in 2009 and is a former general counsel for British Gas.
The news comes after the supermarket giant confirmed that Dame Lucy Neville-Rolfe (pictured), the executive director responsible for corporate and legal affairs, would retire on her 60th birthday on 2 January.
“During her period at Tesco, Lucy has transformed the professionalism of the corporate affairs function at Tesco as well as, on the legal side, leading for the company on 3 major competition enquiries,” said Clarke.
“She has always shown unrelenting determination and great finesse and Tesco is indebted to her for many outstanding achievements, not least for leaving behind her a strong team.
Neville-Rolfe added: “I have had a fascinating career at Tesco and have greatly enjoyed representing our interests around the world and building a great team.”
Her corporate affairs role is being taken over by Rebecca Shelley, who joined the group from Brunswick last month.
