Nescafé makes new commitment to Colombian coffee farmers

Nescafé UK has made a pledge to Colombian coffee growers to plant four million new trees and build 48 coffee plant nurseries in the country.

In addition to the investment in new trees, brand owner Nestlé has arranged for five agronomists to provide training and support for Columbian farmers this year.

The project, part of a new partnership with the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia, aims to help farmers improve their yields.

“This partnership is a new approach which seeks to deliver a better quality of life to its members.” said Nestlé UK food & beverage MD Bernard Paternot.

The initiative is part of the global Nescafé Plan launched in 2010 under which the company will invest £213m in coffee projects and distribute 220 million coffee trees by 2020.
