Morrisons and Asda have withdrawn a number of pre-packed pangasius lines, it has emerged.

Asda said it had withdrawn three pre-packed lines of pangasius after internal testing had found "issues with the quality of the fish". The lines affected are River Cobbler Fillets, Smoked River Cobbler Fillets and Chosen By You River Cobbler with Butter. They are all part of Asda's own-label offering.

Morrisons said it had also withdrawn three pre-packed pangasius lines Perfect Catch Natural Basa Fillets, Perfect Catch Smoked Basa Fillets and Perfect Catch Lightly Dusted Basa Fillets.

The Perfect Catch range is supplied to Morrisons by Cumbrian Seafoods, and a spokesman for Morrisons said it had decided to take the products off its shelves after being advised to do so by Cumbrian Seafoods. As a result of the withdrawals, Morrisons is not stocking any pangasius at the moment.

Cumbrian Seafoods declined to comment.

Reports last week suggested that Tesco, too, had withdrawn a number of pangasius lines, but the retailer declined to comment.
