Despite Poundland’s acquisition of 99p Stores (and the growth of variety discounters B&M Bargains and Home Bargains), Poundstretcher still managed to double pre-tax profits last year by slashing distribution costs, while closing 18 smaller stores and opening 17 larger outlets as part of an estate review.
