Meat-processing giant Cranswick is throwing its weight behind the burgeoning meat snacks market with the launch a range of on-the-go bangers this week.

Bertie’s Bangers, which hit Tesco on Monday (7 October), are fully cooked, ready-to-eat British sausages that come in single-serve snack packs (rsp: 89p). They are available in succulent pork, herby Lincolnshire, barbecue pork and pork & chilli flavours.

Cranswick said the range provided the eating experience of a quality British sausage straight from the pack. Consumer research had shown shoppers were looking for “substantial, tasty” meat snacks “which are recognisable and British”, it said. “We see this new range as a much-needed addition to the less natural, less satisfying offer in supermarkets,” added convenience foods marketing controller Richard Morris.

Bertie’s Bangers is the latest in a line of meat snacks to launch recently. Jerky and biltong suppliers have been picking up listings, while Deli24 launched meat snack sticks in May and in August, Vion launched British-made Little Bites meat snacks into Sainsbury’s.
