Farm Africa

A team of top food and drink businessmen have raised more than £220,000 for charity after completing a gruelling trek in east Africa.

The group of 13 business leaders, including Sainsbury’s director of marketing Mark Given, executive director of Dairy Crest Adam Braithwaite, and William Reed chief executive Charles Reed, spent six days hiking up the multiple peaks of Mount Elgon, an extinct volcano on the border of Uganda and Kenya, to raise funds for Farm Africa.

The team also made visits to Farm Africa projects at either end of the trek, including the Growing Futures Project, which works with young Kenyan farmers to help them build sustainable business in agriculture.

Writing the final entry in an online blog of the trip, Jonathan Neale, managing director for buying at Aldi UK, said: ‘As we end this adventure, we can all be proud of the funds we have raised for an amazing cause who are truly changing the lives of local people throughout the region - and for that we are hugely grateful to all of you, our supporters.’
