Premium London smoked salmon producer Hansen & Lydersen is launching a bid for £2m funding to open a new processing site and restaurant in King’s Cross.

The company is currently based in Stoke Newington, but chief executive Ole-Martin Hansen plans to open a restaurant - and showcase production in a specially developed shipping container - at the new site next April.

These would help finance the much higher rent, he said, adding that it was seeking £2m funding from investors to fund the fit-out costs.

“We have the best smoked salmon in the world and we’re a high growth-potential company,” Hansen said.

The company’s annual turnover is about £400,000, but Hansen is targeting a £4m turnover within the first year of the King’s Cross site opening, and £6m in year two.

Hansen is planning a meeting for potential investors next Wednesday (21 August).
