Pinter’s technology allows drinkers to brew their own fresh beer at home in the fridge

Former Camden Town Brewery boss Adam Keary has joined fast-growing home brewing startup Pinter as MD.

The appointment marks Keary’s return to the beer market after leaving Camden in early 2021, when it became fully integrated into owner AB InBev.

Pinter’s technology allows drinkers to brew their own fresh beer at home in the fridge, with a growing range of IPAs, pilsners, ciders and stouts available.

The London-based business sells its machines direct to consumers with each beer kit – which makes 10 pints – sold separately. Customers add the fresh press ingredients, fill the Pinter with water and leave to brew in the fridge. The brand’s new tech, the Pinter 2, also allows customers to brew freshly hopped beer.

Launched in 2020 by Ralph Broadbent and Alex Dixon, following 10 years of development, Pinter generated sales of more than £6m in its first full year of trading.

A £7m funding round, joined by the likes of Naked Wine founder Rowan Gormley, as well as a number of former Diageo execs, valued the it at more than £50m.

Pinter boasts more than 60,000 users, with in excess of three million pints brewed at homes across the country. The company claimed it used 70% less packaging than one-use beer products, with a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions versus traditional beer production methods.

CEO Ralph Broadbent added: “The fresh beer revolution is here. We knew there was an untapped gap in the market for the Pinter, but the speed at which it generated support, interest and genuine excitement was honestly overwhelming.”

Keary joined Camden in 2017 as sales director, driving the launch of the craft brand into supermarkets. He was promoted to MD in 2019, overseeing the launch of the DTC operation and signing a sponsorship deal with Arsenal to become the club’s official beer partner.

Since leaving Camden, Keary has launched DTC pastry kit brand Tarla Bakes, which sends out ingredients to bake croissants and pains au chocolat and Danishes at home.

He also backed alcohol-free beer startup Days in a seed funding round, joining the business as a strategic director.
