Carlsberg Britvic is to open a new logistics depot in the West Midlands.
The project, which will break ground later this year and is expected to complete in the fourth quarter of 2026, will include the construction of a purpose-built facility at the West Midlands Interchange (WMI).
The WMI is a £2bn new national logistics hub currently being developed by global real estate investor, developer and manager Oxford Properties and Logistics Capital Partners (LCP). Carlsberg Britvic will be the first occupier at the site.
Carlsberg Britvic said it was investing £4m in the facility, which is located at Junction 12 of the M6 north of Wolverhampton, just under 10 miles from the company’s current Wolverhampton depot.
The 222,000 sq ft new unit will eventually replace the Wolverhampton depot and would “support Carlsberg Britvic’s ambitions for its UK logistics footprint, while laying the foundation for future growth”, the supplier said.
The new depot would be “designed with a focus on energy efficiency and building performance”, it added.
The supplier is targeting a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standard for the new depot, which is also set to be a “Net Zero Carbon Aligned” building based on the standards of a new UK pilot scheme.
“This investment underscores our long-term commitment to strengthening our operations and enhancing service to our customers,” said Carlsberg Britvic CEO Paul Davies. “The new facility will be a massive investment in the region, providing a new base for our depot team in Wolverhampton.
“The West Midlands Interchange provides an ideal location for our new depot, enabling us to future-proof our logistics infrastructure and build for sustainable growth.”
Carlsberg Britvic was formed in January of this year, after Carlsberg Group completed the acquisition of soft drinks supplier Britvic for £3.3bn.
