Luxury organic farm shop-cum-London grocer Daylesford Organic has bounced back to the black, as increased retail and wholesale demand was joined by the first full year’s operations at its dedicated events space.
Underlying profits at Daylesford jumped from a loss of £2m in 2024 to a £2.8m surplus in the 52 weeks to 29 March, as revenues rose and the business slashed underlying costs.
Turnover grew 4.7% to £58.1m, as the company’s retail stores and wholesale business “continued to resonate with customers”, according to a statement from directors attached to the accounts, who added that the company’s expanded focus on gifting had helped drive sales.
“Wholesale saw strong demand through key partners, and the year marked the first full year of Heritage House, the dedicated events space at Daylesford Farm, which enabled us to host landmark events and brand experiences at a scale not previously possible,” the directors said.
“These efforts have strengthened the foundation of the business, positioning us well for the year ahead.”
Efficiency measures helped slash Daylesford’s cost of sales and administrative expenditure, with stock shrinkage and wastage alone halved from £3.2m to £1.6m.
“By continuing to focus on building a luxury brand, known for its product quality and strong ethical and environmental values, the directors believe there is considerable scope to profitably grow sales, through retail, e-commerce and wholesale channels, whilst strong focus on operational efficiency should continue to support improvements in profitability,” said directors.
Pre-tax profits – weighed down in 2024 by restructuring costs and the opening of the company’s event space Heritage House – jumped to £1.3m from the previous year’s £4.8m loss.
Daylesford is owned by Lady Carole Bamford, and has been a favourite of affluent Cotswolds and London shoppers. It hosted US vice president JD Vance in 2025 during his UK visit. Bamford has been a pioneer of organic farming in the UK since the 1970s.
Bamford’s husband is billionaire JCB chairman and Tory donor Lord Anthony Bamford.
