The finalists for The Grocer Gold Awards 2025 have been revealed, with a shortlist of just over 170 entrants ready to battle it out across 29 categories.
The awards, to be held at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Tuesday 8 July, is a celebration of achievement across the £220bn UK grocery sector. And the shortlisted companies, brands and individuals represent the full gamut of operations, including supermarket giants but also independent retail chains; multinational giants but also startups; as well as technology and supply chain providers, charities and other NGOs.
And this year’s event will include an exciting new category – Social Impact Initiative of the Year – awarded for the first time.
The award will pit celebrity chef Jamie Oliver and B-Corp brand Tony’s Chocolonely against retail giants including Sainsbury’s, Iceland and Co-op, as well as challenger brands The Jolly Hog, Aduna Superfoods and Ahmad Tea.
And there’s similar diversity among the finalists across the rest of the categories. There’s a predictably strong showing for the supermarkets, of course, where Tesco leads the way with five nominations, followed by Asda, Co-op and Waitrose with four each.
But the awards also capture the achievements of smaller operators, with a number of specialist categories including the Startup of the Year, the SME Brand of the Year, the Specialist Wholesaler of the Year, and the Specialist Online Service of the Year.
One of the most highly anticipated awards will be the Entrepreneur of the Year where ex Welsh international football star Thomas Robson-Kanu will kick off against Alex Wright and Jack Scott from Dash Water, Amelia Christie-Miller at Bold Bean Co, Barty Walsh from Ordo, Trip founders Olivia Ferdi & Daniel Khoury and Hilltop Honey’s Scott Davies.
The Store Manager of the Year competition also looks set to be another battle royal.

And a further five trophies will be awarded, including The Grocer 33 Awards, Britain’s Favourite Supermarket and The Grocer Cup.
Adam Leyland, editor in chief of The Grocer and chair of the judging, said just making the shortlist was an achievement in its own right. “With the help of some incredible judges, our rigorous and impartial process selected less than half the record number of entries to the Grocer Gold Awards.
”The shortlist therefore represents the creme de la creme, and the magnificent Royal Albert Hall will provide the perfect backdrop to crown their achievements.”
”There are just eight weeks to go before the 34 winners are revealed. If you’ve not done so already, it’s time to book your tickets.”
