Nichols, the parent company of Vimto Soft Drinks, is planning to outsource manufacturing of its brands in an effort to increase operational efficiency.
The move would involve closing its factory at Golborne near Manchester, which makes Vimto, Sunkist and Indigo soft drinks, and transferring its Stockport packaging operations to Haydock.
The measures are expected to result in the loss of about 180 jobs, but are predicted to add around £2m to annual operating profit. The disposal of the Golborne and Stockport factories is also expected to generate £8m.
Nichols said other businesses in the group remained unaffected by the proposal, and it would retain responsibilities for sales, marketing and ongoing development for all its brands.
