The new line will produce wet trays for Harringtons and new IPN own-label products

Inspired Pet Nutrition is ploughing upwards of £6m into its factory to “triple the site’s wet dogfood tray capacity”.

The first stage of the investment at the site in Kinmel, North Wales, will see a second processing and filling line installed later this year, expected to be operational by January 2023.

IPN claimed the new line would run “three times faster” than its existing line, which operates 24 hours a day. It will produce wet trays for Harringtons and new IPN own-label products.

The new equipment would allow overall wet dogfood capacity to increase “by 75% compared to last year, with further increases over the next 18 months as the investment project is complete”, claimed IPN.

It would also enable IPN to “offer pet parents a choice of wet tray formats, including fully recyclable aluminium trays”.

IPN CEO James Lawson said the investment would “help us on our journey to become the UK’s most sustainable petfood manufacturer”.

Dominic Whelan, site operations manager at the Kinmel site, said the wet tray market was “set for even further growth, and this significant investment will ensure we can meet demand”.

“Two years ago, IPN Kinmel produced about 4,000 tonnes of finished goods,” he added. “This has now risen to an astonishing 10,500 tonnes.”

It comes after the petfood manufacturer last year snapped up Pet Food UK as part of a buy-and-build strategy to create a player of significant scale in the category.
