Cook is now supplying its entire range of meals in 100% recyclable trays.

The upmarket frozen meal manufacturer and retailer has switched to cardboard trays or new plastic trays made from up to 85% recycled plastic, and are 100% recyclable via kerbside collection.

The move follows a trial in its Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks stores this summer in which Cook sold its four-person meals in the new plastic trays made by Faerch. The trays range in colour from blue to green depending on what recycled materials they have been made from, however they are all easily detectable by council recycling machines unlike the previous black plastic versions.

The Sittingbourne-based business said it would take a few months to sell through the remaining black trays in shops and concessions.

“Being out of black plastic for all our meals before the end of the year is fantastic, and not something we expected to achieve even six months ago,” said Cook co-founder Edward Perry. “Once it was clear the new trays were a more sustainable option for our one and two-portion meals, it was really just a question of how fast we could make the switch.”
