What: Split Pots Favourite Desserts
Where: Chilled yoghurts/pot desserts
When: Launched July 2014
How much: £1.80/6x135g
Why: suppliers continue to roll out products to extend the use of yoghurt beyond breakfast and into the desserts market. Part of Asda’s Chosen By You range, this pack of six split-pot yogurt desserts contains three pots of Lemon Meringue and three of Black Forest. The Lemon Meringue is a vanilla yogurt and lemon sauce with meringue drops, while the Black Forest is vanilla yogurt topped with cherry compote and chocolate flakes.
Consumer verdict: This was seen as a novel idea with competitive pricing (each pot was the equivalent to 30p), and prompted a good level of pre-trial interest. After testing there was some disappointment in the quality, with comments of the texture being ‘watery’. Some felt the lemon flavour too sweet, and the Black Forest variant lacking fruit. Failing to meet expectations, the product achieved an overall score three points below the category norm. Despite reservations, 59% of testers said they would ‘definitely’ or ‘probably’ buy.
Pre-trial purchase: 50%
Post-trial purchase: 59%

New and different: 60%
Overall score: 39/50
