Cereal Partners has been fined £7,500 and ordered to pay £13,600 costs after being found guilty of misleading labelling on its Shredded Wheat breakfast cereal. After a trial at Shrewsbury Magistrates' Court it was ruled the company had made "medicinal claims" on its packets inferring eating Shredded Wheat reduced the risk of coronary heart disease. He said such claims breached food labelling rules. The claims were made on more than 10 million packets sold between April and August last year, part of a healthy heart campaign in conjunction with the British Heart Foundation. Cereal Partners, which is considering an appeal, denied any intention to mislead and said the campaign raised £250,000 for the BHF. {{NEWS }}
