Has summer arrived in Crewe? Yes, we’ve had some great weather in the last week and it’s made a big difference, though to be honest even when the sun’s not out, people are still looking to enjoy summer and we’ve had some great offers on barbecues and 25% off wine. Now it’s a great opportunity going into the prime holiday season.
What events have you got planned for the rest of the summer? We have a Taste The Summer roadshow coming up in July. There will be lots of stalls and we’ll be selling Tesco and branded products as well as giving people ideas for picnics and tips for barbecues. There will also be a kid zone to entertain the youngsters.
Are the people of Crewe wearing F&F for the summer season? I think our clothes range is the best it’s ever been. We’ve had a lot of feedback from customers saying it compares really well to shops like Next.
What have your staff been doing for charity lately? We’ve had staff taking part in our local Pride celebrations. Our community champion was out on one of the floats and it went well.
You scored maximum points for service. What is your best advice to other managers? My main principle is that I want to be the best store in our local area. I pride myself on understanding my competition better than anybody else. Our store is very neat and tidy and has good availability and the feedback we’ve been getting is that the opposition are not as good.
How do you get that customer feedback? Every four weeks we will sit down with a group of customers and ask for their feedback on what we are doing well and what we could be doing better. I think it’s really important we look to our customers for their input.
How difficult is it to combine store management with parenting two young children? Tesco have been very supportive. They are very good at supporting working mums.
