Wolverhampton & Dudley, the UK’s biggest regional brewer, has said it is buying Burtonwood brewery for £119m, following its annual results announcement last week.

W&DB, the maker of Marston’s Pedigree beer, posted a 6.3% rise in annual profits with an underlying pre-tax profit of £77.7m for the 53 weeks to October 2, which met analysts expectations.

Over 400 of the Burtonwood pubs will be operated by W&DB’s tenanted Union Pub Company and the rest will join its managed Pathfinder Pubs, which include the Pitcher & Piano chain.

Shares for the company closed at 947p last Thursday, valuing the group at £758.5m.
