Merseyside Council is investigating the unexplained death of a Sainsbury’s worker in its St Helens distribution centre.

Thirty-year-old Christopher Roberts of Worsley, Greater Manchester, suffered serious head injuries at the centre in Hall Wood Avenue last Thursday.

Employees called police offers to the scene at 8.45pm, reporting that Rogers had been involved in an accident with a forklift truck. He was later pronounced dead.

St Helens Council Environmental Protection Department has now launched an investigation into the circumstances of the worker’s death, and Sainsbury’s said it was helping with the “urgent” inquiry.

“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his friends and family,” said a Sainsbury’s spokeswoman.
