The Grocer Christmas Feature (9 May issue)

By Dene Mullen (dene.mullen@thegrocer.co.uk)

Deadline for submissions: Friday 24 April

According to The Great British Christmas 2025 Survey – a major nationwide study based on research with 2,000 British adults conducted immediately after Christmas – a quiet but important shift is taking place among younger adults and child-free households.

It shows that under-35s are significantly more open to alternative proteins and non-traditional meals, blended cultural menus and lighter, less alcohol-centric celebrations. While the Christmas classics are still popular overall, the research shows a need for supermarkets and manufacturers to protect tradition without enforcing uniformity.

We’d like answers to the following questions from retailers, brands and suppliers big and small, please:

How is ‘The Big Day’ changing and why?

What changes have you already seen in recent years? Does anything stick out?

What are the big opportunities for supermarkets and suppliers here?

What are you already planning in terms of food and drink that caters to those looking for a less-traditional Christmas?

Is anyone already ahead of the game?

What are the trends we might expect to see this Christmas? And how will we see them manifest in products that fit the less-traditional Christmas celebration?

Please also send high-res photos of any products that fit the bill, preferably lifestyle shots.
