The business had ‘invested heavily’ in new products

Peter’s Food Service will create 110 jobs thanks to several new supply deals with UK brands and retailers.

As a result of the additional branded and own-label orders, Wales-based Peter’s, which makes pies, pasties, slices and sausage rolls for the retail, foodservice, catering and hospitality industries, will move to a two-shift operation later this month. Recruitment is under way to fill the new positions.

“The past few years have seen extremely challenging market conditions,” said Peter’s MD Mike Grimwood. “Last year we announced a strategic review of our business to ensure its sustainability and ultimately future growth.

“As a result a decision was taken to terminate several contracts which we considered unviable for the business, and to explore discussions with others where we identified mutually beneficial opportunities.”

He added the business had invested heavily in new products to help diversify, with the new supply deals - with unnamed customers - a result of the ongoing strategic review.

Peter’s currently employs 730 staff and has annual revenues of about £65m.
