The steaks are touted as containing more than 15g of protein each

Meatless Farm has launched its first steak alternative.

The brand has debuted a two-pack of Plant Based Steaks (rsp: £3.50), which used “the latest food technology, high-quality plant-based ingredients and pea protein to emulate the texture and taste of beef”, it said.

They are free of soya and are touted as containing over 15g of protein per fillet as well as “a significantly lower carbon footprint” than actual steak.

The brand’s UK & Ireland MD Michael Hunter said Meatless Farm had “brought another credible contender to the market to challenge the red meat sector”. “Many people enjoy a steak meal, yet red meat has the highest environmental impact,” he added.

The steaks will roll into Sainsbury’s from 27 April.

It’s the latest in a string of NPD from the brand, which has rapidly moved into a swathe of categories over the past year.

Most recently, in November 2021, it launched a range of chicken fillet alternatives into Tesco and Asda.

Prior to that, in March 2021, it made its first foray into savoury pastries with a microwavable sausage roll.
