Dr Chris van Tulleken, author of the Sunday Times bestselling book ‘Ultra Processed People’ and one of the UK’s leading voices on nutrition and public health, will be one of the keynote speakers at The Grocer Health Summit.
An infectious diseases doctor and professor of Infection and Global Health at UCL, his research focuses on the commercial determinants of health, particularly the impact of food and nutrition on health outcomes. A familiar face to millions through his work with the BBC, van Tulleken also chaired the launch of The Lancet series on ultra-processed foods and works closely with organisations including Unicef and the World Health Organization.
His expertise in the increasingly contentious debate around food, health and industry makes him a fitting keynote speaker for the Health Summit, a one-day event taking place at the QEII Centre, London on 15 September 2026.

The past year has fundamentally reshaped how health is viewed across grocery, meaning nutrition, wellness and changes to the UK food system are firmly on the agenda in every boardroom across the industry.
Created to help grocery businesses navigate this increasingly complex health landscape, The Grocer Health Summit will explore how shifting consumer attitudes are shaping behaviour, product reformulation and innovation; how health regulation and legislation will affect business models; how marketing must evolve in a post‑HFSS, GLP‑1-obsessed world; and, crucially, how companies can plan for the future.
Titled ‘How to Target Health’, the summit sets out to tackle the health-related issues impacting the sector and society as a whole, exploring the opportunities it presents, as well as nutritional and technological breakthroughs.
Other speakers already confirmed include: Sainsbury’s CEO Simon Roberts; Sunna van Kampen, the author, influencer and Tonic Health founder; professor Amelia Lake, public health nutritionist and professor of public health nutrition at Teesside University; Holland & Barrett CEO Anthony Houghton; Dr Samuel Dicken, research fellow and clinical scientist at UCL and Katharine Jenner, executive director at the Obesity Health Alliance.
Headline sponsor Sainsbury’s is backing the summit as an opportunity to help shape the future health agenda. Explaining the rationale behind its support, CEO Simon Roberts said now was “the right moment for a new conversation at scale to refocus our collective attention on the big questions facing the sector”.
