Costa Coffee has unveiled plans to invest up to £3.5m across its London estate to upgrade shops and open new sites.
The coffee chain has a pipeline of up to seven new stores to open across the capital in 2026, alongside the refurbishment of more than 10 existing sites.
The latest opening, on Aldergate Street in the City of London, will showcase Costa’s new store format, designed to “support a range of customer missions”.
It will incorporate dedicated collection areas “for speed and convenience”, varied seating to “encourage longer dwell time”, and digital touchpoints including self-service kiosks and click-and-collect via the Costa Club app.
“London remains a key market for us, and this £3.5m investment reflects our commitment to evolving our store estate in line with changing customer behaviours,” said Costa Coffee regional operations director for London and the Southeast Luke Shaughnessy.
“We continue to see demand for both convenience-led coffee occasions and spaces where customers can spend more time, and our latest openings are designed to meet that breadth of need.”
It comes after Costa unveiled plans last month to open up to 40 new drive-thru stores across the UK in 2026 as it hit a “major milestone” with the opening of its 400th drive-thru.
The coffee chain opened its first UK drive-thru store in 2011, with the format continuing to “play a key role” in the evolution of its retail estate, being the UK’s largest drive-thru coffee operator.
