Help for companies to tackle the looming threat of climate change has been published in a new set of guidelines by the FDF.
The body said the new toolkits would help companies find ways to make their business more sustainable in the face of major economic and geopolitical headwinds.
The publication follows the launch of the FDF’s Ambition 2030 strategy in November, which covers five strategic pillars: net zero, nature restoration, sustainable commodities, food waste, and packaging.
It said that with food consumption accounting for over a fifth of the UK’s total carbon emissions, and half of the UK’s Plastic Pact targets for 2025 set to be missed, ”the stakes were high” when it came to sustainability.
“Achieving our sector’s ambitious net zero and nature targets will take proactivity and collaboration, with each business recognising the part they have to play in tackling critical climate issues,” said FDF head of climate change and energy policy Emma Piercy.
“We recognise that the sustainability policy landscape is complex, and that food and drink manufacturers will all be at different stages in their sustainability journeys. That’s why we’ve created these new Ambition 2030 toolkits, giving businesses the support and guidance they need to contribute to our collective action on climate progress towards their sustainability goals.”
