Gander has been approved as a supplier for Morrisons Daily to help retailers reduce waste and provide shoppers with access to discounted food.
The approval enabled franchisees to use Gander’s technology to sell surplus and short-dated food via the Gander app in real time, increasing visibility and accelerating sell-through, Gander said.
The food waste reduction platform can integrate via various EPoS providers, ensuring a seamless rollout and minimal operational disruption for stores.
Gander already works with several Morrisons Daily retailers including EC Ashton & Son and Freedom Convenience, as well as ‘Together With Morrisons’ retailers Filco Supermarkets, Warner’s and Chiltern Stores.
“Gander offers us a simple way to advertise our reduced food section to our customers,” said Freedom Convenience MD Alex Kapadia. “It allows us to reduce waste and also be braver when listing new ranges, as we have a way to sell them through at near cost price if they don’t sell.”
Prior to introducing Gander, the store’s daily sell-through rate on reduced items averaged 45%. Following implementation, this increased to 70%.
The store has also recently begun selling its Gander-listed reduced items via Snappy Shopper, pushing sell-through rates further, frequently reaching between 80%-90%.
Gander head of convenience sales Ian Bacon said: “Being approved as a supplier for Morrisons Daily is an important step for Gander. Retailers are looking for practical solutions that work in the real world.
“This gives them access to a proven platform that reduces waste, supports profitability and delivers value back into their local communities.”
