Cranswick has acquired pork challenger brand The Jolly Hog, The Grocer can reveal.
The value of the deal was not disclosed, but Companies House documents show that Cranswick has acquired significant control of the family-run firm.
While the management of the business will remain independent, the companies said the investment from Cranswick will increase production capacity, improve supply security and strengthen access to world-class technical expertise.
It will also improve its NPD pipeline, “enabling new products to be developed and launched faster while maintaining the quality, flavour, recipes and standards consumers know and trust”.
Founders and brothers Max, Josh and Olly Kohn have ceased having significant control over the business but are set to continue leading it with “the same values and vision”.
The existing structure of the brand and all staff in the Bristol headquarters will also be retained.
“We have the investment, expertise and manufacturing capability to scale faster without compromising on the quality, flavour or values that define our brand,” the brothers, who created the business in 2007, said in a statement.
“We’re lucky to say we’ve seen growing retailer interest in stocking our range and this partnership ensures we can meet that demand whilst maintaining the standards we’re known for.”
The Jolly Hog will also maintain its commitment to sourcing 100% British, outdoor-bred and RSPCA Assured pork.
The move comes after Olly Kohn claimed that The Jolly Hog was on course to turn over £30m this year and was aiming to double its revenue over the next three years.
“The business remains founder-led, our commitment to higher-welfare British pork remains unchanged and we’re incredibly excited about what comes next for our retail partners and consumers,” the brothers added.
Cranswick’s decision to enter into a strategic partnership with The Jolly Hog follows increased demand for premium sausages and bacon, which helped drive up its ‘Gourmet Products’ revenue by 15.3% in the year to March 2026, according to its full-year results.
“The Jolly Hog is a brand with a clear purpose, a loyal following and a reputation for delivering exceptional products,” said Cranswick chief commercial officer Jim Brisby.
“We’re delighted to be partnering with Olly, Max and Josh at such a pivotal moment in their journey and will support the team to deliver their exciting and ambitious growth plans to unlock the full potential of The Jolly Hog.”
