The snacks have launched into Waitrose and will hit Sainsbury’s next month

Proper has mounted a challenge to Love Corn, unveiling its own range of flavoured, crunchy corn.

Called Crunch Corn, the range has debuted with four vegan variants – Sea Salt, Crispy Chilli Oil, Barbecue and Maple Bacon – available in 45g and 125g formats (rsps: £1.15 & £2.25).

The snacks, which are made using regeneratively farmed corn, have already hit Waitrose and will roll into Sainsbury’s in September.

According to Proper, the range was positioned to bring “fresh energy into the nuts aisle – at a time when the segment is losing relevance with younger shoppers”.

“With Crunch Corn, we’re building on Proper’s track record of driving growth in both the crisps and snacks categories,” said Proper CMO Sandie Dilger.

“Shoppers are increasingly looking for more fibre, and this launch delivers it in a bold new format,” Dilger added.

The launch puts Proper in direct competition with Love Corn, which sells a range of flavoured crunchy corn in 45g and 115g pouches – plus 5x20g multipacks.

However, this isn’t Proper’s first venture into crunchy corn. It launched a range of “half-popped” corn snacks in 2016, also under the name Crunch Corn.

The snacks supplier axed the range after less than a year due to the prohibitive costs of marketing what it claimed was a “totally unique” product.
