Sainsbury’s chief people officer Prerana Issar has stepped down.
It is understood that CEO Simon Roberts informed Sainsbury’s staff of Issar’s departure on Friday 12 September, Retail Gazette reported.
She first joined the supermarket giant in April 2023, focusing on leading Sainsbury’s flexible working and pay strategy, alongside wider HR functions.
At the time of her appointment, Roberts said Issar brought ”multi sector background and a strong and broad HR experience”.
Before joining Sainsbury’s, Issar spent four years at NHS England, where she also served as chief people officer.
She previously spent six years in leading positions with the United Nations World Food Programme, and seven years at Unilever, where she rose to vice president of HR for the fmcg giant’s global food category.
The news follows a busy weekend for the grocery giant, as Sainsbury’s plans to sell its Argos business to China’s JD.com collapsed less than 24 hours after the late-stage talks were revealed.
Sainsbury’s, which confirmed it was looking to offload the business on Saturday, said it terminated discussions on Sunday as the Beijing-based retailer was only “prepared to engage on a materially revised set of terms and commitments”.
