Shoppers can return non-food purchases without having to post them back or take into a store

Waitrose delivery drivers are accepting John Lewis returns when they drop off groceries from this week.

It means shoppers can return non-food purchases such as clothing or homewares, without having to post them back or take into a store.

The returns must have been purchased online, while a maximum parcel size of 54cm x 35cm x 22cm also applies.

There’s no charge for the return service. Waitrose grocery delivery is also free, with a £60 minimum order value.

The rollout of the return service to all postcodes served by Waitrose.com follows a trial in selected areas last year.

“We are excited to be at the forefront of new services to make online shopping as convenient and quick as possible,” said Ged Keogh-Peters, John Lewis director of supply chain strategy.

A Waitrose spokesman said the move was part of the John Lewis Partnership’s strategy to offer more convenience to customers of both brands.

Last month, Waitrose announced plans to treble the size of its online operation to make it a £1bn turnover business in three years. It also confirmed plans for its second customer fulfilment centre, in north London.
