Nineteen points ahead of Sainsbury’s, Tesco Portsmouth took the win this week. This brings Tesco’s total G33 S&A wins up to five - level with Asda at the top of the table. On entry, the store was “open and uncluttered” and Halloween promotions were in the seasonal aisle. The store was “well-stocked” and there was no checkout queue.

All other retailers had a terrible week when it came to availability. Sainsbury’s Whitley Bay was second, picking up a mere five points. The car park was “a bit muddled” and wasn’t clearly signposted. There was no in-store sampling and low stock in the fruit & veg aisle was “disappointing”. Staff impressed with excellent service, though.

A colossal amount of offers were on display at the entry to Waitrose Torquay - “a bit much”, according to our shopper. Staff were “lovely and friendly” but the layout didn’t flow. At the checkout, there was a fairly long queue and no help was offered with packing.

Asda Strabane’s entrance was crowded and display stands caused congestion. Shelves were messy and products were in the wrong places. Some aisles were clogged up by abandoned restocking trolleys. There were an “excellent range of services” offered by the store, though, with staff “very willing to help”.

Lighting was dull and ceilings were low at Morrisons Wincanton. Aisles were clear but there were very few members of staff to ask for assistance. Nearly 10 minutes were spent with an employee trying to find the wine; our shopper felt more effort could have been made to ask colleagues for help with the search.
