Spar retailer Waynes Foods has purged itself of under-performing store managers among its 110 shops in a bid to improve standards.
The company, ranked fifth in The Grocer’s Top 50 league of independent retailers, has now launched a recruitment drive to plug the gaps left by the departing store managers.
In a recruitment ad drive, Waynes Foods, the company-owned store division of Spar wholesaler Capper & Co, is seeking experienced store managers from south east and south west Wales. Other target areas were Bristol, Kent and East & West Sussex.
Robert Upton, MD of Waynes Foods, confirmed the recruitment campaign was linked to the departure of several under-performing staff, rather than the expansion of its estate.
The retail chain reported strong growth of 9.6% in the last full financial year, with annual sales climbing to a total of £108m.Readers have voted that an ad for Arla’s Anchor Lighter Spreadable was The Grocer’s best front cover of 2005.
The ad, from our April 23 issue, beat off stiff competition from rivals by coming up with a treatment that was imaginative and efficient in getting across its key message. It showed a cow glancing up at a rapidly disappearing Anchor Lighter air balloon soaring into the sky.
