Sir: Regarding your article on identity fraud (‘Asda, Berry Bros, JJ, Iceland impersonated by supply fraudsters’, 15 September), I would add that several fresh produce companies have also experienced this problem, and the lack of proactive interest from the UK authorities to investigate further. Similarly, FPC has received a lethargic response from the authorities when lobbying on behalf of members.

A company’s identity and reputation is hard earned, and it’s as valuable and vulnerable as that of any private individual. If Cameron wants the UK food industry to drive us out of recession then he must ensure that his authorities do more to protect hard-working businesses.

While we can continue to raise awareness, this problem won’t go away, and the impact on the food industry as a whole will be significant. Perhaps it’s time to join forces and lobby to get the Met Police and others to take this more seriously. We’d like to hear from you. www.freshproduce.org.uk/blog
