Aldi has added a new feature to its app allowing shoppers to select their preferred store so they can see ranges and offers specific to the branch.
By entering their postcode and selecting a store, users “will see the product range and pricing specifically for that store” according to the app.
The range they see in the app could include products on trial locally rather than across Aldi’s estate, The Grocer understands. Users will also be able to see the limited-time Aldi Specialbuys on offer in their specific store.
New downloads of the app are understood to have come with the feature since last year, though many Aldi customers will only just be getting it as it rolls out to existing users. They will be asked to select their store when opening the app.
Aldi is understood to be working to incorporate more range and stock availability information over time. A spokesperson said: “The store selection feature was introduced [with new app downloads] around 12 months ago as a routine update to the app as part of our ongoing work to improve the customer experience.”
The discounter has previously eschewed all forms of personalisation in its pursuit of simplicity to keep prices low. It has no loyalty app, though it has experimented with loyalty by running numerous competitions in recent years, in which shoppers are asked to email receipts in return for a chance to win a prize.
Lidl, whose loyalty app Lidl Plus launched in the UK in 2020, has been the UK’s fastest-growing bricks & mortar supermarket each month since October 2023, according to Worldpanel by Numerator data. Latest data shows Lidl’s sales were up by 10% year on in the 12 weeks to 22 February 2026, pushing its market share to 7.8%, up from 7.3%.
In the same period, Aldi’s sales rose by 3.1% year on year, behind the total grocery market growth rate of 3.7%. It left Aldi with a market share of 10.1%, down slightly from 10.2% a year earlier.
