Aldi Own Label Still Prosecco

The NPD was ‘a unique twist on the nation’s favourite sparkling wine’, said Aldi

Aldi has debuted what it claims is the first still prosecco in the UK.

Costellore Still Prosecco DOC (rsp: £5.99/75cl) has rolled out across the discounter’s stores.

It was “a unique twist on the nation’s favourite sparkling wine”, said Aldi.

Made from the same glera grapes as its carbonated counterpart, Costellore Still Prosecco offered “vibrant orchard fruit aromas and a crisp, refreshing taste”.

“This light, fresh, still prosecco has much in common with its sparkling sibling, boasting notes of apricot, honeysuckle, ripe pear and melon with beautifully balancing lemon acidity,” said Aldi wine expert Sam Caporn. “It also makes an excellent alternative to famous northern Italian wines such as gavi. It would be fantastic when enjoyed alongside classic Italian dishes such as seafood pasta, carbonara or risotto.”

The NPD is the latest piece of own-label innovation to hit the wine aisle at Aldi. Earlier this month, the retailer claimed a UK supermarket first with the launch of an own-label aluminium wine bottle.

Costellore Pinot Grigio is shipped directly from Italy and bottled at a sustainably powered UK winery. The aluminium bottles are almost 75% lighter than a glass one, according to the discounter.

In January, Aldi added an own-label chardonnay wine in partnership with Hidden Sea to support ocean clean-up efforts.
