An Aldi store rebranded as ‘Cap-Aldi’ as Lewis Capaldi surprised shoppers with a performance of his latest single.
The Scottish singer took a break from his UK tour to perform his new single Something in the Heavens at an Aldi store in Nottingham on Friday morning.
It comes after a store in Manchester rebranded as ‘Aldeh’ – the local pronunciation of the discounter’s name – in tribute to Oasis’ reunion tour.
However, while Aldi went to the trouble of making a new sign for Oasis, the rebranding for Capaldi consisted of a bit of cardboard taped to the existing store sign with the word ‘Cap’ on it.
Capaldi also sung Survive and Someone You Loved, “sending Aldi customers into a frenzy as they realised their weekly shop had turned into a once-in-a-lifetime gig”, according to a spokesperson for the discounter.
Capaldi said: “This is Capaldi on the roof of an Aldi. Sorry to get in the way of anyone’s shopping. I was back there earlier, some excellent produce, brioche buns, carrots – the lot.”
Aldi UK chief commercial officer Julie Ashfield said: “It doesn’t get more heavenly than Lewis Capaldi on the roof of an Aldi – it feels like this moment was written in the stars. Our customers were treated to something truly unforgettable, and Lewis turned an ordinary day into supermarket history.”
