The food waste initiative has resulted in a reduction of over 290 tonnes of CO2e

Dunelm’s Pausa Café has distributed over 100,000 ‘suprise bags’ of surplus food in the first year of its partnership with social impact company Too Good To Go.

The collaboration, which has been operational in 153 Dunelm stores over the past 12 months, offers customers access to surplus food such as sandwiches, cakes and fruit at a reduced cost of £3.20.

The food waste initiative has resulted in a reduction of over 290 tonnes of CO2e.

“One year into our partnership with Too Good To Go, it’s great to see the significant impact being made, both to reduce food waste and provide customers with great food at fantastic value,” said Dunelm head of Pausa Holly Davies.

“Customer feedback has been really encouraging and we look forward to making further progress as we move into the second year of the partnership.”

Too Good To Go country director UK&I Sophie Trueman said: “We’re incredibly proud to have reached the milestone of 100,000 surprise bags saved in partnership with Dunelm. Through their Pausa Cafés, they’ve shown real leadership in tackling food waste in a space where it’s often overlooked.

“This milestone reflects the power of thinking differently about where food waste happens, and the positive impact we can have when we act on it. Every surprise bag saved through Pausa is a reminder that small changes in unexpected places can drive meaningful change.”

Last month, Morrisons became the first UK supermarket to save three million bags of surplus food from going to waste through its partnership with Too Good To Go.
