Pilgrim’s Europe has fitted hundreds of solar PV modules to its Wirral-based Bromborough facility to help reduce its carbon footprint.
Altogether 744 panels have been fitted to the roof to help the site generate its own renewable electricity.
The solar installation, part of the pork, chicken and lamb giant’s sustainability strategy, is the fourth on-site solar project delivered in partnership with EDF Power Solutions’ commercial and industrial solar division, SAS Energy.
It follows similar schemes at Corsham, Redruth and Andover, where a mixture of rooftop and ground mount solar projects have been built or are planned, said Pilgrim’s Europe.
“Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do, underpinning our entire business strategy,” said Josephine Blundy, director of sustainability at Pilgrim’s Europe.
“Many of our sites are already centres of operational excellence, helping us to innovate and optimise our sustainable food production.
“The four on-site solar installations with EDF Power Solutions represent a huge investment to help us further reduce our carbon footprint and will play a key role in achieving our ambitious goals.”
Raghav Singh, director of large business at EDF Business Solutions, said the company was delighted to continue its long-term partnership with Pilgrim’s Europe, adding that the installation was a “significant step” towards Pilgrim’s Europe reducing its “scope 1 & 2 GHG emissions and achieving its goal of net zero by 2040.”
Deanna Greenhalgh, director of development at SAS Energy, added: “We’re proud to celebrate the successful completion of our fourth project with Pilgrim’s Europe.
“Collaborating with organisations that share our vision for a clean, renewable energy future is at the heart of what we do, and this milestone not only reflects what we’ve achieved together so far but also sets the foundation for many more impactful projects in the years ahead.”
