Poundland rolled out its Perks loyalty app across the UK last year

Poundland has named the date it will stop selling online and close its loyalty app, as it focuses on simplifying the business in a turnaround strategy.

The digital retreat is part of a restructuring process under new owner Gordon Brothers, the investment firm that bought Poundland from Pepco Group in June.

The plan, which is subject to creditor and High Court approval, also includes the closure of 68 stores. Twenty-eight of them have so far closed ahead of the High Court hearing on 26 August, with another 11 set to cease trading this weekend.

A message on Poundland’s Perks loyalty app and website is telling shoppers: “Poundland.co.uk is changing and Poundland Perks is closing.

“From 16 September, our website will be for browsing only and Poundland Perks will be closing – but you’ll still be able to use your vouchers.

“We’re currently working very hard behind the scenes to simplify and refocus our stores. And that means very soon there’ll be even more ranges at £1, and new items to choose from each week, but unfortunately we will no longer be providing an online delivery service from 16 September 2025.”

The message adds: “As we work hard to simplify and refocus Poundland, delivering the absolute best value to every one of our customers in our stores, we’ll be retiring our Perks app. But don’t worry, any rewards vouchers that you’ve already earned will stay in the app, and you’ll be able to redeem them in-store until 15 January 2026.

“This means we’ll focus on having the best Prices, for everyone, in all of our stores – no need for an account, data, membership or vouchers. Just amazing value every day.”

Withdrawing from online sales ends a journey Poundland embarked on four years ago, including buying Poundshop.com and its warehouse in Bilston, West Midlands, in 2022.

The Poundland Perks app was rolled out across the UK last year.

The restructuring plan also includes removing frozen food from stores, an offer Poundland rolled out across its estate following its acquisition of Fulton’s Foods in 2020.

Poundland’s frozen and digital distribution centre at Darton, South Yorkshire, is due to close this year, followed by its national distribution centre at Springvale in Bilston, West Midlands, in early 2026. Stores will be served from its other two distribution centres in Wigan and Harlow.
