Tesco is to start offering loyalty points for shoppers when they top up their electric cars while visiting its stores.
The supermarket announced the new service as an extension of its tie-up with tech provider Pod.
From today, Clubcard members can collect a Clubcard point for every pound spent on charging at Pod’s Vauxhall-branded chargers at Tesco stores.
Electric vehicle drivers can now also get 2,500 Clubcard points by signing up to Pod’s all-inclusive home charging subscription Pod Drive.
Pod has been working with Tesco since 2019. Its tie-up with Tesco and Vauxhall operates more than 2,600 EV charging bays at more than 600 Tesco store car parks across the UK.
“Our customers have long been able to collect points on fuel from Tesco, but with an increasing number of drivers switching to electric vehicles we are delighted that shoppers will now be able to collect Clubcard points when they charge their cars at our stores, thanks to our exciting partnership with Pod,” said Tesco group membership and loyalty director Shama Wilson.
“You can now park at your local Tesco and top up your electric vehicle while you shop, in the knowledge that you are collecting Clubcard points towards a future Tesco shop or to exchange with one of our reward partners.”
Pod CEO Melanie Lane added: “We’re thrilled to deepen our long-standing partnership with Tesco and provide an incentive for Clubcard members to make the switch to an EV and join over a quarter of a million customers that trust Pod with their charging needs.
“We know that the more that EVs blend with peoples’ everyday routines, the more it makes sense to go electric, and with our unique partnership we’re able to align drivers’ charging experiences across both home and public charging points.
“Fresh from repositioning the business as Pod and launching Pod Drive, we’re committed to building momentum and bringing our brilliant partners on our mission: to make EV charging easy and affordable for everyone.”
