Food redistribution pioneer Mark Game has been appointed the new CEO of the community dining charity FoodCycle.
Game, founder of affordable food clubs charity The Bread and Butter Thing (TBBT), will join FoodCycle in mid-April, with current CEO Sophie Tebbetts to step down after 10 years with the organisation.
A leading light in surplus food redistribution, Game brings 25 years’ experience to the role.
He was the co-founder of the UK’s first social supermarket The Community Shop in 2013, before founding TBBT in 2015.
He previously served as a trustee with FoodCycle for almost a decade.
FoodCycle seeks to tackle food insecurity, social isolation and food waste through community meals and bringing people together to enjoy good conversation and nourishing food – made using surplus food that would otherwise go to waste.
Game said: “Having spent the last two decades working at the intersection of food, community and social enterprise, I’ve witnessed the everyday challenges faced by households and communities across the country.
“FoodCycle works because it focuses on the bit that really matters, people. The food brings people through the door, but it’s the welcome, the routine, and the conversations that keep them coming back.”
