Andy Perry

Andy Perry has joined Waitrose as its supply chain director, taking over from Alison Maffin, who has left the retailer after 16 years.

Perry joins Waitrose from Primark, where he has been working in a freelance advisory capacity and programme lead since January 2025. Before that he was previously vice president of convenience at Asda and supply chain & logistics director at Co-op.

He spent seven years at Co-op, but his biggest spell was at Tesco where he began his career. Perry held a variety of supply chain and logistics roles at Tesco in the UK and Asia between 2000 and 2015, during which time he worked with Jason Tarry, the current chair of Waitrose parent company the John Lewis Partnership.

Maffin did not reveal details of her next move. However, in a post on Linkedin she stated: “After 16 fantastic years, I have decided that now is the right time for me to leave Waitrose. I have mixed emotions as am so proud of what we have achieved, a little sad to be leaving an incredible team and some amazing peers but extremely excited about what’s ahead. I am leaving on a high following our full-year results which shows that Waitrose is a brilliant brand with strong momentum. We have achieved record customer satisfaction scores, record availability and market beating volume growth.”

Alison Maffin said she was ‘sad to be leaving an incredible team… but extremely excited about what’s ahead’

She added: “Our transformation plan is working, and I have loved playing my part in it. When I took over supply chain, we were in the middle of replacing our core merchandise systems and availability was not where it needed to be. Fast-forward to now, we have modernised our tech, have a brilliant team that works collaboratively across the business to deliver record availability for our customers, week in, week out. Our customers have noticed and we won the Grocer Gold availability award for the first time ever.”

A Waitrose spokeswoman added: “We’re very grateful to Alison for her considerable contribution to the partnership and wish her well for her next move. We’re pleased that Andy Perry has decided to join the partnership and help continue the transformation of the Waitrose supply chain.”
