Tesco is pushing into Asian-inspired snacking with a new Korean and Japanese range spanning crisps, confectionery, pouch drinks and mochi-style treats.
Demand for East Asian flavours continues to build, with the retailer reporting searches for “Korean style” products up 51% year on year and “Japanese” up 16% across Tesco.com.
Suppliers are increasingly looking to Asian cuisines for inspiration, with Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Thai flavours seen as a key source of growth in crisps and snacks from The Grocer’s recent Focus On Bagged Snacks. Suppliers point to rising demand for bolder, more layered taste profiles – including heat, sweetness, acidity and umami – rather than one-note spice, with Korean BBQ and sweet-spicy “swicy” flavours currently trending.
The launch includes takoyaki balls and pouch drinks along with flavoured Oreos, biscuit sticks and more, available now and all with Clubcard offers.
