Seafood specialist 555 Amanda has established a UK entity, signalling a strengthened commitment to the UK market.
The Denmark-based company has traded in the UK since the 1950s, mainly serving the fish and chip sector, and has recently seen increased demand from retail, foodservice and manufacturing.
The increased demand highlighted an “untapped opportunity” to expand and invest into a dedicated trading division, the business said.
Gavin McLean, who has worked with the Danish company for the past two years as a sales consultant, has been appointed general manager for the new arm.
He is a specialist in commercial strategy and growth planning, and he will report to Lars Fey, export director for Insula, the parent company to 555 Amanda.
“We’re delighted to start 2026 with a dedicated UK operation for 555 Amanda,” said McLean. ”This structure will enable faster growth and give customers stronger local support.
“It will give us the capability to accelerate 555 Amanda’s expansion across fish and chip shops, food manufacturers, wholesalers and foodservice channels.”

Stephen Minall, an investor and director of Moving Food Ltd, will also help to drive UK sales as non-executive director.
McLean said the focus was on “strengthening our UK proposition and building sustainable growth rather than chasing short-term volume” in a time where the sector has been challenged by cost volatility, supply pressures and maintaining quality at scale.
McLean added: “Leveraging key trends such as sustainability through waste reduction and value cuts, alongside consumer demand for nostalgia and natural, minimally processed whole foods with strong nutritional credentials, and demonstrating how our versatile product portfolio aligns with these drivers, will also be important.”
