Aldi is calling for ‘undiscovered’ food & drink suppliers to pitch for a national listing in a new series of its TV show on Channel 4 with presenter Anita Rani.
Aldi’s Next Big Thing is returning for its third series, relaunched as ‘Aldi: The Next Big Seller’.
The format will again see hopeful suppliers attempting to convince judges Rani and Aldi chief commercial officer Julie Ashfield that their product is with worth a place on the shelves of the discounter’s 1,080 stores. Winners gain a temporary listing as an Aldi Specialbuy.
Farmer and TV presenter Jimmy Doherty is joining as a judge for the new series, which will include a Christmas special.
Aldi is calling for suppliers to apply to be in the show now.
“This is a genuine opportunity for ambitious British food and drink producers to get their products in front of millions of customers,” wrote Aldi UK & Ireland CEO Giles Hurley on LinkedIn.
“We’ve seen how transformational this can be – products like Flake Bake’s Jamaican Patties sold out within days of airing, and we’re proud to now stock them as part of our core range.
“At its core, this series is about championing brilliant British suppliers and giving small businesses the platform they need to grow. I’m looking forward to seeing the innovation and passion this year’s applicants bring.”
Ashfield said: “It’s incredibly exciting to relaunch this series and showcase the creativity and innovation of British food and drink producers. Suppliers are given an opportunity to reach millions of customers and see their products on store shelves nationwide which can be truly life-changing.
“We are proud to support these suppliers and look forward to discovering the next round of amazing products.”
Doherty said: “I’m delighted to be joining Aldi: The Next Big Seller alongside Anita and Julie. As a food producer and restaurateur, I know first-hand how hard it is to turn a great product into a sustainable business.
“I’ve spent years doing the hard graft, including attending six farmers’ markets a week. This series gives brilliant British producers a genuine opportunity to scale up, reach new customers and take that crucial step from pitch to shelf, and I can’t wait to be part of their journey.”
