Bestway is pumping £10m into reducing the wholesale price of more than 2,000 core lines, The Grocer can reveal.
The wholesale giant said the move was designed to boost profitability and sustainability for independent retailers across the UK, while attracting more shoppers to their stores. The price cuts will take immediate effect.
Products involved in the investment span all categories, focusing on “high-demand everyday essentials that matter most to retailers and shoppers alike”, Bestway said.
These include a case of Budweiser (10x440ml cans), reduced from £9.89 to £8.99, and a case of Aero Peppermint sharing chocolate (15x90g bars), reduced from £15.15 to £12.19.
The campaign will be communicated through in-depot signage, digital platforms, newsletters, and printed leaflets.
Bestway said the price drops aimed to deliver “long-term, locked-in savings” that retailers could rely on, helping them plan and price competitively in a changing retail landscape.
“We know our customers are under pressure – and we’re taking decisive, long-term action,” said Bestway Wholesale MD Dawood Pervez. “This isn’t a one-off deal. It’s a real investment in the day-to-day success of the independent retail sector.
“By lowering our core prices, we’re helping retailers strengthen their margins and stay competitive where it really matters. This investment shows we’re listening, we’re acting, and we’re standing shoulder to shoulder with independents across the country.”
The investment comes as Bestway celebrated its 50th anniversary last week with a celebration at the Royal Albert Hall.
It was hosted by Dermot O’Leary and included performances from Katherine Jenkins, Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, string quartet Escala, accompanied by the Novello Orchestra, and classical fusion artist Okiem.
