SAI Platform said the programme provided an outcome-based framework and practical tools to support the implementation of regenerative practices at scale whilst allowing for local adaptation

Forty global food businesses have signed a declaration to scale regenerative farming in a step towards achieving industry alignment on regenerative practices.

Organisations including Carlsberg, Diageo, FrieslandCampina and Mondelez signed the document, supporting global non-profit membership network SAI Platform’s Regenerating Together Programme.

SAI Platform said the programme provided an outcome-based framework and practical tools to support the implementation of regenerative practices at scale whilst allowing for local adaptation.

The signatories also recognised the challenges facing food systems – including climate change, biodiversity loss, soil degradation, water stress and pressure on farmer livelihoods – were interconnected and could not be tackled in isolation.

“To create and scale resilient agricultural supply chains, we need alignment and collaboration – not isolated efforts,” said Simon Boas Hoffmeyer, Carlsberg Group global head of sustainability and ESG.

“The shared framework and common standards of SAI Platform’s Regenerating Together Programme offer consistency and credibility, while being practical for farmers and suppliers to engage,” he added. “We look forward to championing this approach with our partners and suppliers.”

The declaration, which comes ahead of the programme’s launch next month, follows heightened concern over the potential for greenwashing in the concept of regenerative farming due to the lack of regulation surrounding the term.

Dionys Forster, director general at SAI Platform, said the support for the programme marked a pivotal moment in moving regenerative farming from “ambition to action”.

“The breadth and calibre of signatories is a clear signal that the industry is ready to leave fragmented approaches behind and work together towards meaningful change,” Forster continued, adding: “By aligning on clear outcomes and indicators, this declaration lays the groundwork for progress that is collaborative, measurable and scalable, helping to protect and strengthen agricultural systems for years to come.”
