Deliveroo has secured the first UK grocery partner for its white-label delivery service Deliveroo Express.

Co-op is rolling out the delivery-as-a-service offering from Deliveroo to hundreds of its stores, offering Co-op website and app customers deliver of their orders “in as little as 60 minutes”.

The service – which launched in April – allows supermarkets to sell product through their own website and app, but leverage the aggregator app’s network of couriers to deliver baskets to shoppers’ homes. Deliveroo signed Tesco Whoosh in Ireland as its first partner earlier this year.

Deliveroo Express for grocery replicates Deliveroo’s existing white-label service for restaurant deliveries and takeaways – which utilises Deliveroo’s “backend tech infrastructure and extensive rider network” to fulfil orders – offering grocers a rapid, on-demand service that operates through their own online channels.

“Deliveroo Express is the next step in our mission to transform on-demand delivery, ensuring we remain the partner for growth, for grocers and retailers alike, helping them reach more consumers through their own online channels,” said Suzy McClintock, VP of new verticals at Deliveroo.

“We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with Co-op as they adopt our white-label delivery solution, supporting fast and reliable on-demand deliveries through their existing website,” she added.

Co-op was Deliveroo’s first major grocery partner when the aggregator launched its grocery business in 2018. The partnership has grown to cover around 1,400 Co-op stores across the UK.

In February, Co-op launched member prices on Deliveroo. Co-op members add their membership number at the checkout in order to access the deals, which cover 100 key lines and everyday essentials, with savings of up to 28%.

“Growing our quick commerce channel is a core part of our strategic approach, and I am delighted to build on our long-standing and successful partnership with Deliveroo. Working together we are focused on meeting the evolving needs of shoppers,” said Chris Conway, Co-op quick commerce director.

“This includes making the fast and reliable delivery of Co-op groceries available to more communities and creating value through member price savings as we see consumer appetite for quick and convenient grocery delivery from their local Co-op continue to grow,” he added.

All three major aggregator apps – Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat – now offer a white label delivery service to grocers.

Uber’s Uber Direct is the longest running, and is the delivery solution behind Tesco Whoosh in the UK – which notably doesn’t appear on the delivery platforms’ own apps – along with delivery business Stuart.

In June, Just Eat began rolling out its white-label, delivery-as-a-service offering Jet Go across the UK with Co-op.
