John Lewis and Uber Eats are trailing a new rapid delivery partnership, which enables shoppers to order “last-minute” beauty, babycare and gifting products.
Shoppers within eight kilometres of John Lewis’ Leeds and Stratford stores will be able to select from a curated range of 150 products, for delivery by an Uber Eats rider in as little as 30 minutes.
The products include handheld foldable fans, Emma Bridgewater birthday cards, Molton Brown shower gel, and Ultrasun suncream, which will match the listed price in John Lewis stores.
“Our pilot with Uber Eats will make it easier than ever for customers to access the John Lewis products they love, delivered to their location within the hour,” said Stella Winklewska, category lead at John Lewis.
“It’s an exciting strategic step to reach a new audience, and helps ensure that we’re there for our customers when they really need us – however they choose to shop with us.”
Expanding on its online and on-demand offer has been a major part of the John Lewis Partnership’s turnaround plan over the past couple of years, since Waitrose launched with Uber Eats in October 2023.
To date it’s focused the rollout on grocery delivery from Waitrose stores, but this marks the first time the offer has been rolled out to John Lewis stores.
The pilot is currently set to run until September, and would test customer demand, purchasing trends and operational logistics ahead of “a wider national rollout”, JLP said.
“We’re seeing significant growth in retail on Uber Eats as customers look to get everything from beauty products and gifts to baby essentials delivered in minutes,” said Alex Troughton, head of retail at Uber Eats, EMEA.
“By combining John Lewis’ product range with Uber Eats’ technology, we’re helping customers get easy access to everyday items and premium picks alike. By working together, we’re excited to bring the best of the British high street directly to our customers’ doors.”
It follows the expansion of Waitrose loyalty offers to the Uber Eats platform in June.
