Morrisons has hired former Nisa boss Peter Batt as operations director for its company-owned convenience business.
The supermarket said it welcomed Batt to the team as he brought over 30 years’ food and retail experience.
Batt was MD of Nisa, overseeing 4,000 stores from September 2022 to December 2024, before it became Co-op Wholesale earlier this year.
During this time he also sat on the boards of the Association of Convenience Stores and the Federation of Wholesale Distributors.
He advocated for the interests of retailers and wholesalers during the Covid pandemic and subsequent cost of living crisis.
Prior to that, Batt spent almost eight years as divisional MD for the Co-op Group, with accountability for over 1,200 stores.
The first 20 years of his career were at Sainsbury’s, where he held senior roles in operations, commercial, and convenience.
“We’re pleased to have appointed Peter Batt as operations director for convenience,” said a Morrisons spokeswoman. “He is a highly experienced retailer and we’re excited to be welcoming him to the Morrisons team.”
Batt’s appointment comes as former Morrisons director for convenience, online, wholesale and fuel, Joseph Sutton, returns to Asda this week after nearly seven years to lead its Express division, as revealed by The Grocer.
Sutton joined the supermarket on 22 September as vice president for Express, foodservice and fuel. He is replacing Chris Walker, who left the business earlier this month.
